Building the Fire Within is a 501c3 non profit organization that will offer housing and programs for non-violent ex-offender women released from prison. BTFW was established in December 2007 in Richmond, VA. Our goal is to return productive law abiding citizens back to their communities.

Susan Medwid and Stephanie Lee drove fourteen (14) hours to Port Saint Lucie, Florida to deliver Christmas presents and to share donations from Building The Fire Within. to 5 year old Elizabeth and 8 year Angela. Eiizabeth,Angela and their mother Mary moved to Florida from Richmond because they had no place to live.
December 2010, Florida experienced a cold Christmas season. Susan and Stephanie also delivered assorted blankets, coats, and pajamas to this family so they could have a happy and warm winter. One of Building the Fire Within's goals is to assist families who are in need of clothing.

We will prepare formerly incarcerated women for re-entry into the community through counseling, education and training in an atmosphere of respect, trust, challenge and understanding.
All residents will participate in a structured, disciplined program with a purpose of identifying and addressing problem areas. Some of these areas are alcohol and drugs, substance abuse counseling and relapse prevention, mentoring, family counseling, career counseling, parenting skills, educational programs and spiritual growth.
